The Saturdays stars Mollie King and Rochelle Wiseman missed out on the chance to win $1.6 million (£1 million) for their favourite charity on Saturday (24Mar12) after losing a live quiz show on U.K. TV.
The British pop singers were the celebrity guests on The Million Pound Drop Live, in which contestants bet a portion of $1.6 million on the outcome of general knowledge questions.
Their bandmate Una Healy, who gave birth to her first child earlier this month (Mar12), encouraged them via video link but the duo lost a lot of its cash early on as the singers were quizzed on subjects including eggs, celebrity fashion lines and cosmetic surgery.
They had $120,000 (£75,000) to bet on their final question about foetus development - but Wiseman and King were left horrified when they picked the wrong answer.
Wiseman declared, "I'm devastated," while King exclaimed, "I can't believe that!"
The singers were given an $8,000 (£5,000) consolation prize for their favourite charity Marie Curie Cancer Care, and Wiseman told host Davina MCCall, "We're pleased to be here, for what we came for, to raise awareness of Marie Curie and (to receive the money) is great."
