The
Obamas shared the stage with a few stars on Sunday night at the “Christmas in
Washington” concert at the National Building Museum. Comedian Conan O’Brien,
songstress Jennifer Hudson, Nickelodeon’s Victoria Justice and pop sensation
Justin Bieber joined the first family for the last number of the evening,
“Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.”
In
brief remarks, President Obama called on those gathered to reflect on the birth
of Christ. “He was no ordinary child,” said the president, according to a White
House transcript. “He was the manifestation of God’s love. And every year
we celebrate His birth because the story of Jesus Christ changed the
world."
Obama
thanked the musical artists for a “spectacular evening” and tipped his hat to
O’Brien – the evening’s emcee – calling him “the host of the best late
night show on TBS" to laughter from the crowd.
The concert featured a mix of
holiday classics and more modern tunes including Hudson crooning "O Holy
Night,” Cee Lo Green performing “This Christmas" and The Band Perry’s
rendition of "Mary, Did You Know?"
Bieber,
sporting a white jacket, sang “Mistletoe,” a track from his new Christmas
album. According to a White House pool report, first daughters Sasha and Malia
kept their cool during the teen heartthrob’s performance. “Neither looked
terribly enamored but they all smiled and clapped at the end,” the pooler
wrote.
Maybe
the girls weren't star-struck, but it sounds like Bieber was certainly
impressed with their dad.
The pop star tweeted afterward,
"Great night! President Obama is one cool Prez. He told me he was
'chillin.' #PresidentialSWAG."
