Ashanti Calls The Inc 'Black Cloud,' Talks Fresh Start

Admitting "a lot of things have happened," former The Inc./Murder Inc singer Ashanti is looking forward to a fresh start.

In promoting her rising single "The Woman You Love" this week, the former "Foolish" and "Always On Time" singer has compared the last three years of her life to getting out of a "black cloud." 
"It was like a black cloud that I had to come out of," said Ashanti. "I wanted to kind of distance myself from that. I did Broadway. I did some films. John Tucker Must Die. Resident Evil. And I just kind of had to regroup and say okay, we're going to start, we're going to have a fresh start. I'm going to put my business hat on and approach music at a different angle because it felt like the industry, the music industry, was changing dramatically."

Undeniably attentive, Ashanti is now working on making sure her music is not only right but provides monetarily.

"We know that music changes and three years is a lot of time. I have my own record label, called Written Entertainment, which I am super excited about. Being with the majors it taught me that I need a way bigger percentage than what they were giving me," said Ashanti. "Everything (now) is digital. I'm cutting my own deal with iTunes. It's about learning the behind the scenes to become a better businesswoman."

With a distribution deal with E1 in place, things appear to be looking up for the woman listeners fell for in 2002. In that year, Ashanti debuted atop the Billboard 200 with over 500k sold. That self-titled album went on to sell over six million copies worldwide.

Beyonce is said to be on the list of 'big stars' Simon Cowell is seeking to revamp his X Factor USA panel.

Following the firing of both Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul Monday, sources now say Beyonce could be in line to take a seat between Cowell and LA Reid in September. 
According to sources speaking with Chicago's Sun Times, Cowell is considering Beyonce and Mariah Carey due to the star power used to propel NBC's The Voice (Christina Aguilera) and American Idol (Jennifer Lopez).

"Simon wants nothing but the best for the X Factor," an X Factor insider told The Mirror.

In related news, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell seem to be on good terms following Abdul's exit. Releasing a statement Tuesday, Abdul claimed to "understand" why she was not asked to return for a second season.

"Simon and I, along with Fox and Fremantle, have been communicating about this for a while now, and I have absolute understanding of the situation. Simon is, and will remain a dear friend of mine," said Abdul.

The X Factor USA returns this Fall on Fox.

As well as the chicken - which she specifies must have "no thighs" and "lots of wings" - Nicki also asks for 2 dozen pink or white roses, two Space Heaters, one gallon of Simply Lemonade, 12 cans of Red Bull and scented candles.

Food is apparently very important to the 29-year-old star and her crew as she requests different items for throughout the day, including scrambled egg whites, turkey bacon, toast, Belgian waffles, strawberries, assorted juices and a large fruit platter for breakfast and a deli tray with turkey breast meat, grilled chicken breast, whole Wheat bread or rolls, yellow mustard and other condiments (seasoned salt, hot sauce) and a large fruit platter with side of mango and one large cheese platter for after the concert.

Her extravagant demands are revealed in the new issue of Wonderland magazine.

Despite her excessive requirements, Nicki says she isn't a diva off stage and insists she takes on a persona when she performs.

She told the publication: "They're definitely two completely different people. Obviously what I would wear at home is not what I would wear up on stage and I think, when I'm at home it's a way more introspective character and I think the person people see on stage is anything but. I watch a lot of 'Judge Judy'. And I watch a lot of 'Forensic Files.
